On Friday, the class celebrated Halloween by walking to Canton Square to visit the "pumpkin patch" that Navho Mama's sets up for us. They also were able to trick or treat around local businesses! I had to miss the fun because I got picked to be a juror on a trial :( But I ended up being released early and was able to join the class for some afternoon fun of Bingo and treats! Thank you to everyone who donated snacks!

We recently went in a trip to Farmer Stan and Farmer Wayne's farm. Thank you to all the parents who joined us on the trip! We learned about how they harvest wheat, soy beans, and pumpkins. We also learn how they care for bees. We also got to pick out pumpkins, do a relay race, go through a corn maze, and check out some farm animals. It was a fun, jam-packed day!
Recently, the class earned a pizza pajama party because they filled up our class "Warm Fuzzy Jar." The class earns a warm fuzzy whenever they are all following directions, being good friends, or displaying our community agreements. They also earn fuzzies when another adult gives our class an appreciation for doing something awesome.
We had a lot of fun wearing our pj's all day (Ms. Lacroix included! 😀) and at the end of the day, we enjoyed some pizza and watched some of Frozen! LAST WEEK WE WERE ON THE NEWS FOR INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY. THE HEAD OF THE MARYLAND STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION CAME TO READ A STORY ALOUD TO OUR CLASS ABOUT PEDESTRIAN SAFETY. THE HEAD OF BALTIMORE CITY'S DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WAS ALSO THERE AND PRESENTED US WITH A PROCLAMATION FROM THE MAYOR!
THERE WERE TWO NEWS CREWS IN OUR CLASSROOM COVERING THE READ ALOUD. ABC2NEWS AND FOX45 NEWS WERE BOTH THERE COVERING IT LIVE! SOME OF THE STUDENTS WERE EVEN INTERVIEWED ON LIVE TV! IT WAS AN EXCITING DAY! We had Ms. Pegoursh, the art teacher, visit us last week to give us a lesson on drawing. We have been learning about community and she helped us identify important school community members. We identified several important people, like our principal Dr. Kramer and then we worked on drawing him! We've been spending the week learning about friendships and how to be a good friend. We read the book 'Enemy Pie' (read online here: http://www.storylineonline.net/enemy-pie/) about a little boy who's dad makes a pie to give to his enemy and along the way, he realizes that his 'enemy' is a pretty great person and they become friends and enjoy the pie! We made a Friendship pie as a class today and discussed what it means to be a friend. It was an informative and delicious lesson! If you would like to make this pie at home as well, here is a link to the recipe: http://www.raininghotcoupons.com/cherry-pie-in-the-crock-pot-recipe/ On Friday we participated in the Chesapeake Turtle Derby in the park. Our turtle jockeys, Bernadette and Ryan, represented our class as our turtle, Cupcake, raced the other turtles. Cupcake came in a close second place! We had a blast!
We had awesome time in the park Thursday for our Audubon lesson with Ms. Erin. Thank you to all the parents who joined us!
We learned about habitats and what animals need to survive. Then we explored the pond and found various animals and identified the food, shelter, and water in that habitat that help them survive. This week we've been learning about feelings and how to express them. We read "Glad Monster, Sad Monster" and made artwork to show feelings on our own monsters. We had a wonderful first week in Kindergarten! We did a lot of fun 'getting to know you' activities, talked about what we'll learn this year, and started learning reading and math! We also talked about how to treat one another with respect by reading Chrysanthemum. One of our most fun projects was that we grew brains! We talked about why we were in Kindergarten and that we would spend the year growing our brains so that we can be ready for higher grade levels, and then...college! Take a look at some photos of our activities this week! |
